7 Necessary Steps to Success as a Professional Motivational Speaker

Whether you are just getting started as a professional motivational speaker or are already speaking professionally, from experience, I’ve found there are seven necessary steps to motivational speaking success. Let’s go over them:

Step #1: Create & Road-Test Your Signature Message: Every successful professional motivational speaker has a signature keynote message. Zig Ziglar – “Over The Top,” Les Brown – “The Courage to Live Your Dreams,” and Ty Howard – “Untie the Knots That Tie Up Your Life.” Professional motivational speakers create and present a signature message until they feel the entire world has heard it, at least twenty times over. What’s your signature message?

Step #2: Write Your Book: Successful speakers all have a book. You need to write one or have one written for you by a ghost writer.

Step #3: Niche Yourself: Trying to speak to everyone, everywhere, on every motivational topic known to man, is a losing proposition. Pick your niche (ideal target market) or niches and customize your message and materials to your target market.

Step #4: Create Products for Each of Your Niche Markets: If you sincerely believe in and are passionate about what you have to say and offer to an audience, then it’s your responsibility to give them an opportunity to take a part of your home with them. Step #5: Create & Implement a Marketing & Sales Plan: The professional motivational speaker who knows how he/she is going to market and sell their services and products throughout the year, will be one of the most successful and happy motivational speakers by the end of the year.

A very few highly successful motivational speakers out there are maximizing their profit potential without an identified and written marketing and sales plan guiding them. You need to know who you’re marketing to and how you’re going to sell your services and products every step of the way.

Or you will put yourself with the rest of the motivational speakers who choose to use the “sink or swim” approach.

Step #6: Create & Implement a Reliable, Constant Follow-up & Follow-through System: You do not have to become the best motivational speaker on the planet to become very successful and wealthy in the business. However, if you make it your top priority to become a professional motivational speaker known for being reliable because of your constant follow-up and follow-through system. Meeting planners, clients, bureaus and your supporters will love to bring you more business and profits.

Step #7: Promote Your Own Seminars and Workshops: Many motivational speakers have to sit around and wait for the phone to ring. Either from a speakers bureau or from a client. In many cases, this turns into a very long wait, and often, emotional periods of gloom and discouragement.

Doing your own seminars and workshops puts YOU in control. No waiting for clients or bureaus to call. No downtime unless you decide there will be. You decide when you want to make money. What could be easier?
